Responsibilities
Compile and analyze monthly net underwriting result by class of business for Controller and CFO review, including detail analysis of Gross Written Premium, Net Written Premium, Net Earned Premium, Commissions & Brokerage as compared to prior year and budget, including ratio analysis.
Review at each month-end the reconciliations of the general ledger to subledger and ensure all G/L accounts are reconciled. If there are any unreconciled differences, create action plans to resolve out of balances.
Analyze quarterly financial activity and compile quarterly CFO Call workbook for review by Controller and CFO and submission to President and Corporate headquarters.
Manage monthly Balance Sheet review and prepares analysis and reporting of movements from prior year.
Coordinate monthly IBNR journal entries, expense accruals, treasury related entries and intercompany underwriting activity and settlements.
Assist in the preparation of the annual Budget and forecasts, including the projection of future written premium, earnings, and allocation of expenses to several classes of business.
Assist with internal and external audit inquiries, data requests and managing the PBC list.
Manage and review banking transactions, cash logs, etc. to ensure ledger and subledger are reconciled.
Manage and perform quarterly SOX compliance testing of key controls.
Deep dive into data to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for improvement.
Collaborate with cross functional teams (actuarial, claims, underwriting) translating business needs and issues to financial reporting impacts.
Present insights and recommendations, fostering data-driven decision-making, including the use of summary dashboards thereby selling the story via the presented by the data.

Required
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field (master’s preferred)
5+ years of accounting and finance experience, with public accounting time preferred
Insurance and/or Reinsurance industry experience
CPA or CMA license or progress is required
Technical knowledge of US GAAP accounting principles, with general knowledge of STAT a plus
Experience with general ledger functions including various accounting software administration – PeopleSoft GL/Essbase, etc
Experience with data analysis and working with large data - Microsoft Fabric and Power Bi experience is preferred
Experience with the month-end/year end close process with a view to innovation, streamlining and automation
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including highly proficient excel skills
Solid understanding of best practices in process and procedures and SOX controls
Preferred
Master’s degree in accounting, finance or related field
Public accounting experience
Microsoft Fabric and Power Bi experience
