Responsibilities
Provide strategic direction and technical leadership to the engineering team
Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of engineering projects
Propose new programs, both government and commercial
Collaborate with team leads to ensure alignment on project goals
Provide both internal and external technical updates on engineering projects
Communicate with customers to understand market needs and present product offerings
Responsible for interviewing and hiring new full-time engineers and interns

Required
M.S. (Ph.D. preferred) in electrical engineering, applied physics, or related field.
Strong experience in proposal writing and answering funding calls
10+ years of leading an engineering program in the optical communications/photonics space.
Experience designing products in both commercial and defense
Experience in optical design: refractive/reflective/diffractive components, lasers or displays for microscopy, LiDAR, optical networking, or consumer applications.
Experience executing on a product design schedule/leading reviews
Experience interacting with presenting technical product data to external customers
Technical hardware design experience building chip-scale solutions.
Ability to generate technical content for product development
Ability to travel as needed.
