Responsibilities

Leads and develops a regional property claims team to ensure the quality, accuracy, and timely resolution of property claims
Monitors loss reserve adequacy and accuracy to include timeliness of any developments requiring changes in reserving.
Reviews claims and advises team members on questions of coverage, valuation, loss exposure and loss payment
Examines claim files to determine whether proper claim handling procedures are being followed in accordance with the Claims Guide and best practices.
Reviews and approves high value claims within authority
Evaluates performance of independent adjusters and vendors
Conducts and facilitates regular round-table meetings for Claims, Underwriting, Risk Improvement, and Marketing team members
Reviews and addresses insurance department or customer complaints within EMC compliance guidelines
Maintains diaries on major and/or high-profile files
Manages the claims expense while still achieving good indemnity results and providing superior customer experience
Ensures compliance with state and federal statutory and regulatory requirements
Ensures workload is properly assigned to the team or vendor for proper handling
Collaborates with team members to establish performance goals and monitors status, conducts performance reviews, and provides coaching
Interviews, hires, and recommends salary adjustments for team members
Resolves disciplinary issues, reviews results, action plans, and progress
Develops team expertise and completes succession planning, including identifying talent and implementing development plans for critical positions
Supports diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives
Fosters an innovative culture, including supporting new ideas and providing guidance on potential changes
Manages budgeted resources by anticipating expenditures, accurately forecasting resource needs/costs and properly accounting for expenses to meet requirements and achieve fiscal responsibility
Models and sets the standard for claims communication.
Provides oversight on litigated property cases to ensure they comply with EMC’s litigation guidelines
Prepares claims expense budget for leader.
Prepares quarterly reports to the leader on the Property Claims Department operation
Serves on claims operations committees and/or participates in projects and meetings.

Required

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience
Ten years of experience with commercial property claims handling in progressively responsible roles
Prior management experience
Ability to obtain applicable state licenses
Superior knowledge of the claim functions
Excellent analytical ability and knowledge of legal liability and coverage
Excellent leadership qualities with ability to motivate staff in the handling and disposition of claims
Excellent knowledge of insurance contracts, and legal aspects of court procedures affecting legal liability for property line of insurance
Ability to adhere to high standards of professional conduct while providing the delivery of superior claims service
Strong knowledge of computers and claims systems
Superior organizational and written and verbal communication skills
Superior investigative and problem-solving abilities
Occasional travel; a valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle report per company standards is required if driving
