Responsibilities

Work under mentorship and guidance of the Supervising Engineer.
Prepare substation plan and profile view, grounding, lightning protection, lighting, cable trench, cable trays, conduit layout and detail installation drawings.
Prepare studies and design calculations such as load flow, short circuit, Arc Flash, grounding, TOV, EMF, transformer sizing, cable sizing etc. using software including WinIGS, ETAP, SKM, CDEGS, CYMCAP.
Provide percent complete as well as Estimated Time to Completion when requested by project managers or lead engineers.
Provide input into improvement ideas during project execution and close-out.
Prepare technical specifications for the electrical equipment, evaluate proposals from vendors, and review vendor drawings.
Possess working knowledge of design software including AutoCAD and MicroStation. May be required to prepare or revise design drawings.
Delivery of accurate and thorough designs that will meet industry standards and specifications, and meet good engineering practice with excellent constructability.
Resolving site queries, attending site meetings and performing site inspections during the construction phase of projects.
Maintaining complete project documentation with respect to substation design and construction, including all completion packages, as-built requirements and return data information.
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

Required

A degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution.
3-5 years of working experience in high-voltage substation design for renewable developers and electrical utility clients.
The ideal candidate will have experience working in consulting firms.
Eligible for P.E. licensing.
Possess exceptional communication skills (client relations, project team communications, and proposal and report development)
Candidate must undergo pre-employment drug screening and a criminal background investigation.
Position located at client offices with travel to the site on occasion.
Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
