Responsibilities

Act as a technical expert to develop new product concepts using CAD software.

Optimize the design of new products for manufacturing and assembly processes.

Conceptualize ideas into functional models based on mechanical design principles.

Revise 3D models of product concepts based on component and assembly design.

Create complex 3D technical models with limited direction.

Recommend appropriate tolerances on components based on manufacturing input.

Work to minimize design details that may add cost in the manufacturing process.

Mentor CAD Designers and Drafters as needed.

Assist in the development and maintenance of 3D design standards.

Prioritize work to align with department goals and project teams.

Review personal progress within projects and maintain timelines.

Prepare Engineering Change Order documentation under the direction of an engineer.

Maintain close contact with associated engineering groups and project teams.

Perform other duties as required within the nature and level of work.

Required

Associate of Applied Science Degree in Computer Drafting and Design or equivalent experience

7 years of direct CAD design experience with SolidWorks CAD software or equivalent 3D modeling software

Experience creating detailed engineering drawings and 3D solid and surface models based on concepts, sketches with limited direction from an engineer

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and Outlook)

Ability to generate high-quality models that conform to visual brand guidelines

Ability to adapt and function in an environment of changing priorities often under tight time constraints

Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, machine shop practices and processes, and good drafting practices and standards

Strong communications skills, verbal and written

Strong team focus and ability to work with others, both internal and external to the organization

Ability to work with and take direction from the engineering staff

Preferred

Experience working with high volume consumer products using the manufacturing processes of injection molding, stamping, die casting, forging, and blow molding

Knowledge including material properties, mold design, sliding cores, complex parting line definition, and draft strategy
