Responsibilities
Leading the development of data pipelines and analysis systems involving large secondary data sources such as Medicare and Medicaid administrative claims data and survey data to effectively answer research questions about health care policy
Informing requirements and specifications for performance measures based on cost and quality of care for evaluating the effectiveness of numerous health care policies
Articulating findings and working with researchers to adjust specifications and code as interim results are found
Evaluating the potential of creative ideas for service delivery and payment models to improve the health outcomes and well-being of patients, and to reduce spending for Medicare, Medicaid, and other payers
Mentor junior developers to follow technical standards and best practices, and may lead small teams of 2-3 developers

Required
Bachelor’s degree with a strong academic record in economics, applied mathematics, statistics, public health, public administration, public policy, sociology, political science, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred
5+ years of in-depth programming experience in a professional and/or academic environment
Programming expertise using SAS, Python, R, Julia, Stata, SQL, or a similar statistical language
Experience performing analytics using cloud computing platforms and services, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Microsoft Azure, and/or Databricks is strongly preferred
Strong organizational and communication skills, and the ability to build consensus
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including an ability to translate statistical methods and findings for a non-technical audience
Preferred
Expertise in some of the following statistical and/or quantitative methods preferred: causal inference at both the design (matching or weighting for comparison group selection) and analysis (regression) phases, experimental design, Bayesian inference, hierarchical/multilevel modeling, longitudinal data analysis, performance measurement, survey statistics and predictive modeling
Experience analyzing health care claims is preferred
Experience contributing to written deliverables, such as proposals, technical reports, or academic manuscripts, preferred
Subject-matter knowledge in health policy preferred
