Responsibilities
You will code and get your hands dirty with engineers. Your typical day will include writing code, facilitating technical discussions, planning for and leading major complex projects, and reviewing your peers’ code.
You will have a significant level of participation in your team’s activities, and your leadership will help shape the team’s and organization’s technical direction.
You will own deliverables and pursue them with a sense of urgency while identifying roadblocks, mitigating risks, and suggesting course corrections when appropriate.
You will assist in the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of all engineers we hire.
You will attend to and foster the professional growth of our engineers, providing mentorship, guidance, coaching, and feedback.
You will ensure timely and high-quality project and cycle delivery.
You will maintain and foster a healthy engineering culture.
You will raise the bar on excellence in execution in terms of quality, timeliness, and scalability.
You will take accountability for key engineering metrics of the platform specifically availability, reliability, and security.
You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to define technical requirements, prioritize projects, and ensure timely deliveries.
You will recommend applicable technical patterns and solutions that are aligned with architectural guiding principles and standards through a regular cadence of delivery and continuous improvement initiatives.
You will provide technical guidance and stay informed on industry best practices and emerging technologies.
You will work within the Shape Up framework, focusing on results over process.
You will maintain high standards of code quality and operational rigor, ensuring well-tested code, monitoring, alerting, and runbooks.
You will create clear and concise documentation (diagrams, service descriptions, decisions, runbooks).
You will identify and remove bottlenecks to improve the developer experience.
You will provide career guidance and performance management to a highly skilled workforce.
You will mentor engineers on best practices around engineering and operational excellence.
You will independently define, decompose, and lead delivery of complex projects.
You will supervise engineers to ensure timely delivery of customer-facing features.
You will foster a positive team culture that encourages collaboration and innovation.
You will collaborate with senior engineering leadership to evolve best practices, technical quality, and mentorship.
You will manage a highly engaged and empathetic team through their career goals and professional development opportunities.
You will bring clarity to strategic direction and business requirements for tricky, multi-team projects and initiatives. You’ll adapt your communication on rationale behind complex technical decisions based on your audience.
You will report directly to the CTO and manage a team of ~20-30 engineers.

Required
8+ years of software engineering experience, with a proven track record of managing and building large-scale systems in healthcare.
4-6+ years of experience leading engineering teams of 10+ people.
Proven track record of delivering impactful, timely, and robust technical solutions.
Deep technical expertise to review designs, architectures, and pull requests.
Experience working in HIPAA-compliance environments.
Motivation to build technology that makes a real difference in healthcare access.
Commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse engineering culture.
Strong communication, analytical, and technical skills.
Strong experience with React, TypeScript, GraphQL, Next.js, and PostgreSQL.
