Responsibilities
The incumbent will review, evaluate, and develop recommendations, implement determination on variance petitions associated with public and private sector programs.
They will provide expert engineering consultation on safety and health matters to the Division of Safety and Health staff.
The incumbent will meet and deal with the public, professional engineers, architects, and other professional consultants.
The incumbent will also perform other duties such as reviewing asbestos, ski-tow/lifts, and aerial performance variance applications when the need arises.
The incumbent will be asked to evaluate reports and findings from a consultant and must be able to apply sound structural engineering knowledge and judgment when asked to comment and testify on these reports when representing the State.
They will represent the Commissioner of Labor, when requested, in judicial and quasi-judicial proceedings pertaining to the Labor Law and OSHA Standards and Industrial Code Rules.
The incumbent will travel to all regions throughout New York State.

Required
New York State Professional Engineer's license and current registration
Qualifying bachelor's degree in one of the listed engineering fields OR one year of full-time qualifying engineering experience involving asbestos, mold, building construction and demolition, or mechanical machinery design or operation
Valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State
Preferred
Ability to initiate and maintain relationships across a diverse set of stakeholders
Experience and construction, knowledge in structural evaluations such as buildings, public facilities, and commercial window washing equipment
55b/c letter for verification of applicant eligibility
One year of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55b/c service in a Professional Engineer 1 (Industrial) for reassignment qualifications
One year of permanent or contingent-permanent, or 55b/c service as a Salary Grade 24 or higher for 70.1 transfer qualifications
