Responsibilities
Develop formulations for veterinary nutritional and pharmaceutical solid dose products
Assist in sourcing excipients or active ingredients to be used in the formulations
Work as part of product development team and develop product formulas based on team objectives and to assist in sourcing excipients or active ingredients to be used in the formulations
Produce product prototypes and trial batches in compliance with established procedures
Work with operations to translate formula and pilot production into full-scale production
Work with operations to improve/optimize existing product formulas as needed
Become familiar with semi moist product formulation and manufacturing
Provide input into early-stage product concepts
Evaluate potential ingredients and formulas for manufacturability
Produce and maintain accurate records of all product development activities (pilot non-commercial batch production), including formulas and pilot batch records
Maintain awareness of new developments in ingredients, dosage forms, and other related topics and share with the team when relevant
Work with operations to evaluate equipment requirements for pilot-scale production
Potentially manage food scientist(s)
Perform other assigned duties as may be required in meeting company objectives
Communicate effectively with other departments within the organization and function within a team environment.

Required
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in solid dosage formulation, R&D, scale up and manufacturing trouble shooting of dietary supplements and/or pharmaceutical products (animal health a plus)
Working in a cGMP environment with understanding of cGMP principles and requirements
Multiple oral dosage forms (tablets, chewables, semi-moist, soft gels, capsules, liquids, and/or gels)
Working as part of a cross-functional team
Knowledge of animal feed regulations a plus
Direct compression, encapsulation, scale up, flavors
Creativity and strong problem-solving ability
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organization skills
BS/BA in chemistry, pharmacy, food science, life sciences, engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience
Preferred
Master’s degree preferred in relevant field
