Responsibilities
Applies engineering or scientific knowledge in satellite systems engineering and space mission design to the management and oversight of the formulation, planning, and development of space weather satellites. Participates in technical reviews and assessment of concepts, systems, technologies, designs, architectures, interfaces, and operation of space and ground systems.
Manages multiple engineering projects using established project management principals; identifies problems, determines causes, evaluates alternative solutions, and makes recommendations. Supports planning and evaluation of space weather satellite mission concepts and instrument design approaches.
Formulates, executes, advises on, and explains recommendations or solutions to modify standard practices, processes, and techniques; resolves a wide variety of complex problems. Develops standards and test plans for space weather mission development.

Required
Degree: Engineering. To be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.
Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government.
Assisting with the management of engineering and team projects, providing technical input and direction; and
Participating in the management of programmatic and technical aspects of satellite systems, space and ground assets, or antenna communication networks.
Applicants must also possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the ZP-3 or (GS-12) in the Federal service. Specialized experience MUST include all of the following:
