Responsibilities
Plan, assign, direct, and supervise work associated with design and construction of roads, buildings, utilities, and various public works construction projects.
Develop plans, estimates, and deliverables for the construction of public works projects.
Oversee the review of developer pre-designs, designs, and construction activities for the department.
Inspect project sites to assist in determining solutions to difficult problems.
Interpret specifications and city policy, apply relevant codes, ordinances, rules, and regulations.
Conduct special technical studies and investigations.
Review and make recommendations on technical reports and studies.
Review computations and specified materials for accuracy and conformance with regulations.
Participate in the review of plans, specifications, and all private development proposals including residential, commercial, and mapping projects.
Prepare reports and special studies related to submitted plans and documents.
Prepare and review project quantity and cost estimates.
Monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures.
Estimate staff time, equipment, and materials needed for planned projects.
Plan and oversee construction of City facilities and construction inspection activities.
Assist in the preparation of the capital improvement plan and budget.
Coordinate activities with other agencies, city departments, divisions, sections, and outside agencies.
Assist in the budget preparation and administration for the department including projects and programs.
Attend and participate in professional group meetings.
Supervise, train, and evaluate personnel and assigned staff in areas of responsibility.

Required
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university
Two (2) years of full-time, increasingly responsible experience in professional civil engineering within the assigned discipline for Associate Civil Engineer
Five (5) years of full-time, increasingly responsible professional civil engineering experience in the assigned discipline, including significant supervisory experience for Senior Civil Engineer
Possession of a valid Certificate of Registration as a Civil Engineer in the State of California for both positions
Possession of, or the ability to obtain and retain a California Class C driver license by the time of appointment for both positions
Preferred
Additional certifications may be favorable for Senior Civil Engineer
For Plan Check positions, possession of, or ability to obtain and retain, a Plans Examiner Certificate as issued by the I.C.B.O. within one (1) year of employment for Senior Civil Engineer
Building Official Certification as issued by the I.C.B.O. within one (1) year of employment is required for Assistant Building Official for Senior Civil Engineer
