Responsibilities
Responsible for the design and implementation of large data communications or telecommunications networks.
Maintains proper records of the designed networks including network drawings, text descriptions, and equipment configurations.
Advises management on networking solutions, product plans, and roadmaps.
Plans and monitors the installation of communications circuits.
Manages and monitors local area networks and associated equipment.
Plans, designs, and builds LANs and WANs for DHS.
Performs analysis, develops improvements, and determines hardware and software needs.
Prepares tradeoff studies and evaluations for vendor equipment.
Generates network monitoring/performance reports.
Performs configuration, implementation, monitoring, and maintenance of network security systems.
Interacts with IT Support staff, departments, and vendors to determine network security requirements.
Troubleshoots network systems and resolves issues.
Monitors capacity and performance issues for enterprise network infrastructure.
Documents trouble reports and provides updates.
Performs project management tasks and maintenance on network systems.
Provides customer service and support for internal and external customers.
Adheres to policies and regulations concerning confidentiality and security.
Works at various locations as required.

Required
Associate degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Information Technology or related field or equivalent experience.
Minimum eight (8) years of computer-related experience
At least 3 years of experience configuring firewalls.
At least 7 years of experience configuring routers and switches.
At least 10 years of experience monitoring network equipment.
At least 10 years of experience with excellent communication skills (oral and written) in clear, concise English with correct spelling and grammar.
Must have experience with network analysis/management tools and techniques and be familiar with Personal Computers (PCs) in a client/server environment.
Must be familiar with IT technology and long distance and local carrier management.
Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.
