Senior Substation Project Engineer

Responsibilities
Lead and oversee complex substation projects, collaborating with internal multidiscipline teams from full-scope estimating and proposals to project construction bidding, commissioning, and construction support for energization.
Review and generate physical design drawings, including General Arrangement, Elevations, equipment connection Details, Grounding Plan and Details, Conduit Plan and Details, Control Building Layout and Details, Foundation Plan and Details, and develop material lists.
Conduct studies and calculations for substation design, including grounding, lightning protection, battery bank sizing, conduit fill, and overall substation sizing. Perform AC & DC substation studies as needed.
Review and produce design drawings such as one-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel elevations.
Collaborate with internal teams specializing in civil/structural, protection and controls, and automation.
Ensure projects meet performance metrics set by clients or internally in conjunction with the Project Manager.
Maintain and monitor a quality control system for all assigned projects.
Forecast fee revenue on an ongoing monthly basis, ensuring assignments are completed within budget and schedule with high accuracy.
Work independently and may direct or supervise less-experienced EITs and/or Designers.
Monitor training needs of direct reports, schedule training programs, and mentor less-experienced staff.
Provide key support to the Business Unit Leader (BUL) in business development activities.
Assist in preparing business unit proposals by estimating engineering hours as the engineering discipline lead.
Conduct periodic site visits, walkthroughs, estimating, and attend scoping meetings.

Required
Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program or equivalent.
6 - 10 years of substation engineering experience, preferably at an engineering consulting firm.
Professional Engineer registration by examination.
