Responsibilities

Own every part of the product's requirements and implementation, from backend software to hardware

Design and restructure the team for optimal development

Maintain velocity, quality, and morale of the engineering team

Commit code occasionally

Create and communicate a shared vision for work processes

Build relationships across departments

Lead and scale engineering teams

Stay updated on various technologies and articulate a vision for team collaboration

Maintain a balance between being an engineer and a manager

Hire individuals with expertise when needed

Required

An inspiring leader with a network of people who've enjoyed working with you and a history of facilitating the growth of team members

An experienced 'start-up person' with a record of leading and scaling engineering teams at early-stage start-ups

A curious learner with a wide breadth of technologies that you've become well versed in including software, hardware, networking, reliability, mobile apps, data pipelines, and whatever is necessary to create a product that wins the market

Capable of articulating a vision for how engineering teams work together, divide responsibilities, collaborate on projects, and serve other parts of the organization

A person who still considers themselves an engineer (vs. just a manager) and has strong opinions about whether or not computer science fundamentals are important

Humble enough to know that you don't know certain things, keen enough to identify who does know them, and influential enough to be able to hire that person
