Responsibilities
Managing the development and start-up of new packaging components.
Procuring sample components from predetermined suppliers.
Troubleshooting packaging problems and providing feedback to the packaging innovation team.
Analyzing quality and aesthetic form of samples, conducting necessary tests and approving samples.
Establishing standards and guidelines for supplier evaluation.
Evaluating and selecting packaging suppliers/vendors.
Attending supplier quality audits and meetings.
Writing, implementing, and managing test protocols for new materials.
Providing cost information on new or existing packaging to Finance.
Identifying and implementing cost-saving initiatives related to packaging materials.
Specifying and recommending tools and test methods for packaging designs.
Working with manufacturing department to optimize packaging designs for manufacturability.
Developing and implementing test plans to ensure packaging exceeds customer specifications.

Required
Have knowledge in packaging technology & materials and a certificate of packaging science.
Have critical problem solving and decision-making skills.
Can work independently and as part of a team.
Have good written and oral communication skills, and can effectively influence and do work across organizational boundaries including with plant personnel, packaging engineering, and suppliers.
Can effectively develop procedures and technical documents.
Can design and execute trial plans and qualifications in a manufacturing environment.
Understand process improvement and quality improvement concepts; ISO 9001 certification (e.g., CQA, CQE, CQIA) is a plus.
Can demonstrate project management skills and experience; project management certification a plus.
A bachelor’s degree in engineering with a focus on packaging, or equivalent work experience.
5+ years of experience in industrial or consumer packaging or equivalent experience in a manufacturing environment.
Knowledge and understanding of packaging design validation standards (ISO, ASTM, etc.), drafting and specification standards.
