Geographic Information Outreach Specialist

Responsibilities
Coordinate geospatial efforts between and among units of the federal, state, and local governments.
Integrate GIS data developed and maintained by state agencies and political subdivisions into a statewide base map.
Develop and maintain statewide framework data layers associated with a statewide base map.
Establish and maintain a network of local stakeholders and participate in relevant local user group meetings.
Promote the IGIO’s programs.
Represent the IGIO when meeting with stakeholders.
Inform stakeholders of the programs the IGIO provides.
Represent the IGIO at conferences.
Coordinate with the rest of the team.
Conduct geographic information system (GIS) program activities, utilizing GIS hardware and software to produce maps, spatial databases, and thematic data.
Document procedures, validate data for accuracy and completeness, and produce maps of the resulting information.
Evaluate information and data from outside sources to determine the quality of the data.
Coordinate and communicate on the sharing of spatial data and maintain public-facing web maps and applications hosted in the GIO Enterprise.

Required
A strong knowledge of GIS and data standards.
Experience with NENA’s NG-9-1-1 standard.
In-depth knowledge of GIS software, such as Esri’s suite of products or QGIS.
Excellent communication skills.
Working knowledge of and the ability to make practical applications of geography, cartography, GIS software and tools, principles, practices, terminology, and technology of GIS.
Ability to create spatial and related data.
Knowledge of database concepts, such as versioning, keys, and schemas.
Basic understanding of data collection processes and challenges, including sourced data from services, downloads, or other delivery methods.
Ability to integrate spatial data from several sources, identify clean and unusable data, and solve a process for cleaning the data.
Ability to configure map, feature, and image services based on customer use and ESRI best practices, to achieve optimal performance.
Ability to change one’s mind easily if given sufficient evidence and adopt the scientific method to solve problems.
