Responsibilities
Provides policy advice and coordinate monitoring and reporting needs and outputs on the geospatial-statistical integration aspects and methodological approaches for the SDGs and their global indicator framework leveraging the SDGs Geospatial Roadmap and Global Statistical Geospatial Framework as adopted by the Committee of Experts.
Prepares guidance and reports on these issues; assess, synthesize reports and propose recommendations to the Committee of Experts on implementation.
Follow-up and review of the geospatial aspects of the SDGs and other priority development priorities including but not limited to the Paris Agreement on climate change, the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, and the SAMOA Pathway.
Creates databases of information and reports submitted by countries, regional, subregional and international organizations to the Committee of Experts on the implementation, follow-up and review of the SDGs.
Coordinate the efforts of the Committee of Experts to work with the Statistical Commission, and with the broader United Nations system, to integrate geospatial and statistical information systems.
Collaborates with statisticians, data engineers and data scientists to improve data flows, data quality, etc.
Develops and implements geospatial databases, geospatial data collection systems, geospatial data analytics and other strategies that optimize geo-statistical efficiency and quality.
Performs and documents methods, processes and quality assurances of programmed outputs.
Identifies, analyzes, and interprets trends or patterns, using basic machine learning techniques, statistical methods to identify relevant features and variables in structured and unstructured sources of information and data.
Develops and implements various analysis, reporting and quality control capabilities.
Performs other related duties as required.
Qualification

Required
Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent degree) in geography, geoinformatics or geomatics (survey and mapping), geospatial information, geospatial or Earth sciences, or related field is required.
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in geospatial information management and applied geospatial analytics, methodologies and/or quality control, survey, mapping and earth observations applications and development, or related area is required.
Experience in utilizing geospatial technologies and software (instruments, systems, database management, geospatial analysis, mapping, web services development or programming languages, data visualization) or related area is required.
Experience in programmes, projects or initiatives related to geospatial information management at the national level is required.
Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required.
Preferred
Experience in national or regional geospatial initiatives or regional/international geospatial information related cooperation is desirable.
