Responsibilities

Develop and analyze proposed Title 24 energy code improvements
Perform or oversee building energy modeling activities
Support efforts to decarbonize buildings through energy codes and policy mechanisms
Analyze performance data collected in the field or lab to support research projects
Apply technical analysis to support policies and programs
Organize and manage project activities
Design and participate in research and demonstration activities
Prepare technical reports for clients and stakeholders
Identify new strategic research areas and funding opportunities
Develop proposals for new work
Provide technical leadership
Nurture collaborative relationships with stakeholders
Supervisory responsibilities including hiring, assigning work, performance reviews, and mentoring

Required

Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering or technical field
At least 4 years of relevant experience for Engineer position, and at least 8 years for Senior Engineer position
MS degree counts as 2 years of experience, or a PhD degree counts as 4 years
PE License counts as 2 years of experience
Experience in residential or commercial energy efficiency or building science arenas
Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the technical areas listed in the job description
Proficiency with Excel and other common office tools
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Potential to conduct business development, project management, and supervisory activities
Ability to understand and communicate complex technical concepts

Preferred

Familiarity with California regulatory environment, including California Title 24, Part 6; utility/third party energy efficiency programs; and grid flexibility and electrification policies
Proficiency with building energy modeling software including EnergyPlus, OpenStudio, and CEC-recognized residential and non-residential energy compliance tools
Specific experience with distributed energy resources and load shifting
Hands-on knowledge of the operation, control, and performance of mechanical systems in residential and commercial buildings
Experience with analyzing large datasets using Python scripting
