Responsibilities
Design award-winning book jackets and covers.
Work closely and independently with publishers and editors on cover designs from concept through approval.
Prepare mechanical files for production and review and correct proofs.
Strict adherence to schedules and the flexibility to respond critiques in a timely manner.
Partner with art directors and communicate progress on projects.
Consult with photographers, illustrators, and photo researchers.
Develop ideas that extend the reach of the cover design and Knopf brand into the social media landscape.

Required
A strong history in the field of book cover design.
Candidates for Senior Designer will have a minimum of 4 years design experience while candidates for Associate Art Director will have a minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Senior Designer.
The ability to design conceptual and envelope-pushing hardcover jackets.
Proficient knowledge of the MAC platform and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat).
Able to apply organizational methods and strategies to meet deadlines.
Timely follow-up skills with the design team and other departments and able to coordinate and review multiple projects in a fast-paced and detailed-focused environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Interest in working on a wide variety of high quality fiction and non-fiction titles.
