Responsibilities
Evaluates the organization’s content for factual accuracy and verifies quotes and expert contributions.
Provides recommendations and alternatives to editors to ensure factual accuracy.
Executes front-end research for internal stakeholders on specified content projects and deliverables.
Collaborates with internal stakeholders and other partners to ensure content aligns with the organization’s priorities and mission, enterprise brand strategy, and brand architecture.
Provides appropriate documentation of fact-checking materials for archiving.

Required
Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts, journalism or communications, and 3+ years of professional experience at a major newspaper, magazine, or website, or an equivalent combination of training and experience related to the duties of the position.
Must be highly skilled at gathering information from various sources.
Must be able to translate very complex statistical and technical data into plain English.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential. Must be extremely detail-oriented, thorough, organized, and able to work well under deadline pressure.
Demonstrates significant autonomy and possesses expert knowledge of fact-checking best practices.
Understands the legal liabilities of stories produced by multiple AARP content-producing platforms.
Possesses the ability to maintain efficiency under pressure and to successfully prioritize assignments and deadlines.
Preferred
Basic knowledge of CPS/Censhare, Adobe InCopy, Microsoft Office and Lexis-Nexis using Macintosh is preferred.
