Responsibilities

Operate two or more types of heavy equipment to excavate, backfill, grade, or level earth to rough specifications on projects like breaking new ground for trails, roads, canals, tunnels, or construction sites.
Move earth on moderate slopes, graded curves and shoulders, rocky or soft ground, hilly forest, and other surfaces with similar rough features.
Operate engineering equipment on flat and rolling terrain to excavate, backfill, grade or level earth, including roads to exact specifications.
Follow established safety procedures to avoid injury and damage equipment or property.

Required

U.S. Citizenship required.
Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males
Participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
Submit to a drug test and receive a negative result prior to appointment.
Subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
Operate a government or private motor vehicle; valid driver's license required.
Possess and maintain a current Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with Hazardous Materials and Tanker endorsements and no Air Brake Restriction.
Wear a uniform and comply with National Park Service uniform standards.
Work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and shift work.
Complete a one-year probationary period if new to the Federal government.
Travel overnight away from home up to 2 nights per month.
Obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
Complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision.
Ability to Drive Safely (Motor Vehicles).
Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation).
Ability To Operate Safely (Non-Motor Vehicle).
Operation of Motor Vehicles.
Reliability and Dependability as an Engineer Equipment Operator.
Work Practices (including keeping things neat, clean, and in order).
Must possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Hazardous Materials and Tanker endorsements.
Heavy physical effort required.
Exposed to various working conditions including hot, humid, or extremely cold weather, noise, vibration, dust, dirt, oils, solvents, and fumes.
Follow prescribed safety practices and use safety equipment.
Must be well qualified for special priority selection under the Agency Career Transition Assistance Program (CTAP) or the Interagency Career Transition Assistance Program (ICTAP).
