Responsibilities
Under general supervision, designs and prepares engineering plans and specifications of moderate complexity for novel laboratory equipment and instruments in the area of photo-emissive detector technology development and processing.
Will support both space-based instrumentation and ground-based high-energy physics experimentation.
Perform concept studies, support the development of system-level requirements, support program/project technical data management planning, support system-level project requirements and preliminary design data products.
Generate detailed designs of components and/or systems, support procurement and fabrication processes, generate hardware assembly instructions.
Assemble and integrate components or systems to meet requirements.
Support the delivery, integration and test, as well as support operation planning o Support closeout and end item data package delivery.
Plan, organize and document technical information, prepare analytical and design trade studies, generate assembly and test reports, component/instrument performance reports.
Assemble and test instrumentation in support of space flight research and development and high energy physics experiments.
Carry out methodical and detailed tests of components and systems, troubleshoot hardware and electronics systems as required, and support data aggregation, reduction, and analysis.
Development of test plans and procedures for precision and/or space-based instruments.
Maintain test and hardware support equipment.

Required
Working knowledge of engineering principles and methods in order to independently perform professional engineering design work of limited scope and complexity.
Working knowledge necessary to begin independent application of principles, practices and procedures in the completion of assignments.
Organizational abilities and decision-making to prioritize work assignments.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Working skills in the design, development, integration and test of detectors.
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
Preferred
Experience in at least one discipline (electrical, optical, software/hardware, or mechanical).
Proficiency in related software design suite (e.g., Altium, Vivado/Vitis, Zemax Opticstudio, Solidworks, NX/Nastran, or other equivalent).
Working systems knowledge of other engineering specialties involved in assignments.
Ability to develop analytical models, analyze data, implement routines in software (e.g. Matlab, Python, etc.)
