Responsibilities

Provide expert legal counsel on a wide range of product-related matters, including privacy, data protection, consumer protection, intellectual property, and regulatory compliance. This includes performing advisory services on legal issues relating to seller experience, ESG (environmental, social, and governance) and the Impact team, among other product initiatives.

Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, designers, and other stakeholders to identify and mitigate legal risks in the development and launch of new products and features.

Conduct legal research and stay up-to-date on relevant laws, regulations, and industry trends that impact Etsy’s products and services.

Develop and implement legal strategies and best practices to support the company’s goals and minimize potential liabilities.

Assist in managing responses to regulatory inquiries, investigations, and litigation related to product issues.

Educate and train internal teams on legal considerations and compliance requirements relevant to product development and deployment.

Work with other support teams (litigation, tax, compliance, accounting, and outside counsel) to provide seamless support to partners.

Required

JD and are admitted to a state bar (preferably NY or CA) and are qualified to work in-house in New York.

6+ years experience, at both a law firm and in-house, dealing with issues related to product development for tech and e-commerce companies.

Experience being the primary point of contact with clients, and taking the lead in managing the legal side of a project.

The ability to speak to technical experts or business leaders in plain English, without legal jargon.

Executive presence and are passionate about clearly articulating risk and strategies to mitigate risk to clients and executives.

Excellent business, negotiation and presentation skills.

Preferred

Bonus if you have experience with marketplaces, ecommerce, and/or ESG (environmental, social, and governance) issues.
