Responsibilities
Provides technical experience needed to assist in studying the basic principles of plant and animal life
Study basic principles of plant and animal life, such as origin, relationship, development, anatomy, and function
Identify, classify, and study structure, behaviour, ecology, physiology, nutrition, culture, and distribution of plant and animal species
Plan and conduct biological research programs
Assists with performing basic laboratory experiments and procedures
Monitor biological technicians and technologists and other scientists
Monitor and observe experiments, recording production and test data for evaluation by research personnel
Analyze experimental data and interpret results to write reports and summaries of findings
Prepares, organizes and maintains various lab samples, supplies, and equipment
Maintain laboratory equipment
Analyze laboratory findings
Learns new laboratory techniques and procedures
Program and use computers to store, process, and analyze data
Interpret research or operational data
Be responsible for the management of the Usdin Laboratory mouse colony
Conduct research on the molecular mechanisms responsible for mutation and disease pathology in the Repeat Expansion Disorders
Perform research using genetic mouse and cellular models
Develop reagents, assays and methodology for research projects
Maintain records of experiments performed and data acquired
Prepare reports on experimental design notes and progress of research programs
Prepare experimental results and data for presentations and publications
Collaborate with research staff and present research updates
Produce presentation slides, manuscripts, and research papers
Attend scientific meetings and represent the lab in presentations
Contribute to collaborative projects within and outside the lab
Organize laboratory notebook, prepare updates, and assist with recruitment and training

Required
Ph.D. in Philosophy or in another scientific field
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a science-related field
Excellent analytical, organizational, and time management skills
Demonstrate expertise in the generation and analysis of mouse model, pluripotent stem cell culture, and differentiation
Significant scientific training in the areas of mouse and human genetics, stem cell biology, flow cytometry, DNA and protein purification, the genetics of repeat expansion mutations, and their analysis
Strong publication record
Strong communications skills, both oral and written
Experience in studying the basic principles of plant and animal life, biological research programs, and laboratory experiments
Ability to analyze experimental data, interpret results, and write reports
Maintain laboratory equipment and analyze laboratory findings
Program and use computers to store, process, and analyze data
Record and interpret research or operational data
Preferred
Experience in the management of a laboratory mouse colony
Experience in developing genotyping assays for new mouse lines
Experience in supervising the generation of new mouse lines using CRISPR-mediated gene-editing and breeding strategies
Experience in overseeing the generation of embryonic stem cell and embryonic fibroblasts
Experience in designing and preparing animal study protocols and standard operation procedures (SOPs)
Experience in training new personnel in lab-approved SOPs
Experience in conducting research on molecular mechanisms responsible for mutation and disease pathology
Experience in performing research using genetic mouse and cellular models
Experience in preparing reports, manuscripts, and research papers for peer-reviewed scientific journals
Experience in attending scientific meetings and presenting research findings
Experience in collaborating with other research staff and laboratories
Experience in organizing laboratory notebooks, preparing updates on experiments, and presenting progress reports
Certifications & Licenses
Payrate $70 hourly on W2
Software skills in MS Office Suite and Graphpad Prism
