Responsibilities

In-depth analysis of pending legislation
Responses to Congressional queries
Attending Congressional briefings and other meetings; providing highlights relevant to NIA’s research agenda
Collection and curation of scientific advances, including the development of lay summaries of scientific findings, preparation of PowerPoint slides, etc.
Tracking of National Alzheimer’s Project Act-related activities
Support of the Alzheimer’s Disease Bypass Budget and/or annual progress report process
Support for meetings with external groups, including pre-meeting communications and post-meeting follow-up
Support for other policy-related projects as well as collaboration with NIA’s planning/evaluation and communications offices as needed

Required

Good professional judgment and the ability to provide sound analyses/advice in complex situations
Excellent organizational and time-management skills, and an ability to work quickly and carefully under tight deadlines
Skill in conveying scientific information in lay language, both verbally and in writing
An eye for detail
Experience handling sensitive or controversial issues
A PhD or equivalent in the biomedical sciences is required
Be a U.S. citizen or U.S. National. Foreign nationals or legal permanent residents are not eligible for consideration. Candidates must indicate their U.S. citizenship status on their CV or within their email application submission.

Preferred

Some past experience relevant to the work of the NIA (e.g., neuroscience, aging research) would be valuable
Some past legislative/policy experience
