Responsibilities

• Finance Playbook: Partner with investment teams, other operating partners, and portfolio company management to develop, implement, manage, and track finance transformation and value-creation plans. Over time, develop a clear set of priorities and best practices to provide to portfolio companies during various stages of their hold-periods as well as across critical and recurring functional areas.

• Finance Strategy and Optimization: develop and implement best practices in financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting to improve portfolio company performance.

• Operational Efficiency: Lead process improvement initiatives to streamline financial operations across various areas such as reporting, working capital management, budgeting and planning.

• Performance Monitoring: Work with portfolio CFOs to establish KPIs and reporting frameworks to track performance and identify opportunities for operational improvements.

• Leadership and Mentorship: Act as a resource for finance teams within portfolio companies, providing guidance and support as they navigate complex financial challenges.

• Third Party oversight: Maintain and cultivate relationships with institutional and individual providers of finance transformation and operational services. Scope and build project plans for third-parties to execute with portfolio companies.

• Technology & ERP: Support portfolio company Finance teams in their efforts to streamline and improve their use of technology. Provide insights and best practices to ensure that CFOs are increasing productivity by efficient use of technology.

• Organizational Insights: Create and implement finance organization assessments to identify talent or capability gaps within portfolio company finance teams. Maintain relationships with recruiters and support the Gemspring Talent team where needed to assist in hiring decisions for Finance teams.

• Transformation: Own and drive transformational initiatives related to the Finance function. Drive accountability and clarity of deliverables to ensure teams are aligned with expectations and desired results.

• Portfolio Operations Initiatives: Own and be responsible for various Gemspring-wide portfolio initiatives such as Insurance, Procurement, and other finance adjacent value-creation priorities.

Required

10+ years of experience in finance, ideally as a Private Equity Operating Partner, a transformation focused CFO, or a mid-senior level finance and operations consultant with expertise in financial transformation, performance improvement, or post-merger integration.

Deep understanding of financial operations, including accounting, FP&A, cash management, and accounting.

Strong track record of assessing financial performance, designing efficient processes, ERP implementation, instituting financial best practices, building reporting structures, and strategic financial planning at an enterprise level.

Demonstrated experience working alongside investment teams or within a private equity setting.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to influence and build strong relationships across all levels.

High EQ and track record of building excellent relationships with portfolio company executives and deal teams alike.

Strategic thinker with a hands-on approach to problem-solving and execution.

Positive approach to work, with high degree of grit, integrity, and demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Willingness to travel 2-4 days/week to be on the ground with portfolio company executives as needed.
