Responsibilities

Direct, manage, train and mentor the Budgeting and Reporting (B&R) team.
Monitor and delegate tasks and portfolio assignments across the team to maintain balance and efficiency.
Set the strategic direction of the B&R team to identify and prioritize departmental goals and initiatives in support of CHAI’s organizational strategy.
Lead the development of multi-year strategic financial plans, partnering with senior leadership to align financial resources with organizational priorities.
Oversee the design and implementation of financial planning models to assess the impact of new initiatives and strategic changes on financial performance.
Prepare trend, comparative and other financial analyses for senior management to inform organizational strategy and decision making.
Analyze and interpret actual financial results against budgets and forecasts, identifying and investigating differences to provide actionable insights for management.
Actively participate in financial modeling, studies and analyses for special projects as assigned by senior leadership, providing strategic guidance based on financial data.
Prepare summarized financial schedules and analyses used by the Chief Financial Officer in presentations to senior management and the Board of Directors.
Oversee and direct the organization-wide process for preparing the annual consolidated budget, including reviewing submissions from the operating units for completion and consistency, analyzing budgeted data, implementing revisions, preparing summary schedules and comparisons, preparing the final budget package and providing explanations and analyses for senior leadership and the Board of Directors.
Manage periodic reforecasts including coordinating the submission of data from operating units, reviewing reforecast data, and preparing comparisons, explanations and analyses for senior leadership and the Board of Directors.
Facilitate cross-functional communication before, during and after the budgeting process while monitoring necessary execution and follow-ups.
Oversee the preparation of financial data for multi-year strategic planning.
Identify and prioritize opportunities for cost efficiencies.
Ensure that all donor funding is allocated correctly to the respective programs/projects.
Lead the management and oversight of timely spending plan recalibrations due to foreign exchange (FX) fluctuations for grants that are denominated in foreign currencies.
Oversee the allocation, classification and recognition of revenue in accordance to ASU guidance from the US Financial Accounting Standards Board.
Prepare financial analysis and reports on potential funding risks i.e. funding gaps, unfunded programs, donor risks. Support senior management in managing funding gaps and unfunded programs /projects.
Oversee the review and approval of the finance-related sections of proposals, donor agreements and contracts, amendments, and extensions for all donor funded projects to ensure compliance with donor regulations, requirements, policies and procedures.
Together with the contracts department, oversee the grants master file and donor library.
Research, and interpret applicable donor regulations, requirements, and policies and procedures applicable to CHAI programs.
Communicate and train program and finance department on all the key compliance issues.
Support the finance team in the month end and year end accounting close process as needed, including assisting in the preparation of the audit and/or review of the external financial statements and footnotes.
Manage key modules and master files within the financial system to ensure that the required attributes and specifications are maintained appropriately for budgeting, and reporting purposes.
Identify and execute opportunities for continuous improvement to strengthen CHAI’s processes and practices.
Foster a culture of operational excellence, compliance, and values-alignment.

Required

BS/BA in Finance, Accounting, Operations, or similar field
12+ years of experience at the enterprise (corporate/headquarters) level in Finance, Planning, and/or Financial Systems at an organization(s) with greater than $50 million in annual operating expenditures; prior experience with an international non-profit/NGO is strongly preferred, but not required.
Proven ability to identify financial performance trends, anticipate impacts, explain variances, and recommend strategic solutions.
Strong experience with financial modeling tools and online financial systems.
Proven ability to develop financial plans and solve business problems utilizing financial and statistical analysis.
Experience managing a Budgeting and Reporting function (or similar, e.g., Financial Planning & Analysis) in a global organization.
Thorough understanding of accounting and financial management information requirements for a global organization, with significant successful and progressive experience.
Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially advanced Excel skills.
Strong familiarity with financial systems including but not limited to Budgeting, Accounting, Management reporting, Expense recording and reporting, Project databases.
Extensive experience in analysis, interpretation and generation of financial data to drive proactive changes to improve financial performance.
Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with senior management, operations and finance staff regarding financial issues.
The ability to research and analyze issues and recommend solutions.
The ability to provide instruction and training to financial and non-financial people.
The ability to maintain positive internal and external relationships and thrive in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
Highest ethical standards, a deep sense of collegiality, as well as a strong desire to create positive change on a largescale and to see their work in reporting and budgeting as directly linked to, and supportive of, the organization's impact and vision.
Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and experience leading teams through organizational change.
Must possess strong oral and written communication skills in order to effectively present the results of his or her analyses and to successfully support management.
Dynamic individual with strong managerial, leadership, interpersonal, problem-solving, and written and oral communication skills are sought for this role.
Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced, limited structured environment.
Self-motivated and capable of working independently as well as with a team.
Proven ability to manage staff.
Must be able to develop strong peer relationships and motivate others.

Preferred

Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Accounting, Master of Finance, or Master of Public Administration (MPA) preferred
Experience in managing multi-currency financial reporting.
Ability to implement and manage financial information and how it relates to programs and budgets.
