Responsibilities

Cultural Leadership: Shaping the organization’s culture in partnership with leadership and staff to reflect its values and mission by fostering an inclusive work environment. (25%)
Serves as a strategic advisor to the President, the Senior Leadership Team, and the Board Organizational Development Committee on organizational culture and human resources issues.
Oversees the development and execution of initiatives that promote a productive work culture based on anti-racism, equity, and inclusion principles.
Assesses and promotes employee engagement and happiness, paying special attention to the experiences and needs of individuals who have historically been disadvantaged.
Individual and group engagement activities help to promote and demonstrate a caring culture.
HR Strategy & Planning: Developing and executing HR strategies supporting organizational goals and priorities. (20%)
Develops, communicates, and implements HR policies and procedures in collaboration with NPHR.
Meets weekly with allocated NPHR personnel to give employee updates, coordinate response to employee needs, and maintain positive working relationships.
Provides the necessary internal permissions for leave requests and the utilization of employee benefits and bonuses.
Leads legal compliance and risk management strategies, ensuring that HR processes follow labor laws and regulations. Manage HR hazards and legal issues to protect the organization.
Recruitment, Hiring, Onboarding, and Offboarding (15%)
Partners with NPHR to manage recruitment, hiring, and HR onboarding tasks.
Creates strategies for identifying talent; establishes and implements fair and inclusive recruitment and hiring processes for all workers.
Manages and delivers broad organizational onboarding and orientation to new employees.
Oversees the offboarding process, including exit interviews; analyzes data to identify potential cultural issues or other employee concerns; and provides recommendations to the Executive Team for continual development.
Proactively finds new leaders and creates opportunity for advancement and growth.
Training, Development, and Performance: Overseeing learning and development programs that enhance employee skills, career growth, and leadership development. (10%)
Assesses organizational needs and collaborates with organizational leadership to find professional learning and growth opportunities to support employees' continued development.
Maintains a culture of learning and growth by establishing and implementing a monthly staff training and peer learning plan.
Implements a supervision standard based on inclusive leadership strategies such as developing strong connections, active listening, clear and open communication, regular and timely feedback, and setting clear expectations.
In collaboration with senior leadership, I design and conduct the annual performance management process.
Employee Engagement & Well-being: Implementing initiatives to create a work environment that supports employees’ physical and mental well-being. (20%)
Determines and advises employee relations procedures required to foster a favorable employer-employee connection and increase employee morale and motivation.
Develops and promotes equitable employee relations and corrective action practices and procedures while maintaining confidentiality.
When complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise, management and other staff receive support and guidance; administers and executes routine tasks in delicate circumstances as needed by making reasonable accommodations, investigating allegations of wrongdoing, and terminating employees.
Serves as a resource for all employees by providing problem-solving advice when sensitive topics arise.
Other Duties: (10%)
Supervises and leads the People & Culture Manager, holding regular meetings with them to foster a productive relationship, assigning projects and duties, and mentoring, coaching, and evaluating their performance.
Develops, implements, and maintains the annual People & Culture work plan and budget, with quarterly meetings with Finance to assess spending.
Collaborates with other departments, including finance, operations, programs, communications, and development, to match HR activities with overall company goals.
Participates in Management Team meetings as a representative of People & Culture, collaborates with other directors to align strategies and projects, and works successfully with other MT members to promote a caring community.
As assigned, perform additional related duties.
Staff Organizational Commitment: As a staff member, you are expected to carry out the following duties and responsibilities:
Submitting and approving expenditure reports and timecards by the specified timeframes.
Attending all staff meetings, training, and events.
Participating in organizational development and transformation procedures, such as committees and special project teams.
Model the company's culture and values; connect outcomes, procedures, and communications with the organization's culture.

Required

A Bachelor’s degree is required
Ten (10) years of experience in organizational development, leadership, and management, including traditional HR management and designing values-driven systems and policies to support people and foster healthy cultures, ideally in the nonprofit or philanthropic sector
Five (5) years of experience in supervising staff
Extensive knowledge of best practices in remote work compliance and policy
Strong collaborative leadership skills for coordinating, developing, and implementing compliance strategies, policies, and training
The ability to provide constructive feedback, inspire staff, and manage organizational change
High emotional intelligence and the ability to handle interpersonal problems imaginatively as well as negotiate difficult interpersonal, intra-organizational, and inter-organizational issues
Analytical thinker with excellent mental and problem-solving abilities
Excellent written and spoken communication abilities
Strong interpersonal skills and the capacity to manage disputes
Ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with grace and discretion
Superior attention to detail combined with exceptional organizing skills
Ability to collaborate and establish partnerships in a diversified virtual work environment
Ability to detect and mitigate organizational hazards
Excellent project management skills, from planning to defining roles and timeframes, to implementation
Capable of managing change, working under pressure, and overseeing numerous strategic and tactical projects at once
Commitment to the company's vision and values

Preferred

An advanced certification or degree in human resources or people management
Experience in a remote-first organization
Experience in managing relationships with external HR management providers
Experience in leading RFP processes with vendors
