Responsibilities
Prefers candidates who have been active in life/disability underwriting within the last year
Responsible for evaluating life insurance applications and determining whether applications should be approved, declined or if additional information is required.
Interaction with Third party Administrator personnel is also often needed.
High-volume, high-quality underwriting of life and disability income applications.
Review applications and supporting documents to determine underwriting decisions.
Identify and assess necessary additional information and unique requirements for various associations.
Collaborate across teams to ensure consistent quality and timely work outputs.
Able to produce high volumes of work with quality results
Ability to train new underwriters
Underwrites Life and Disability Income applications
Reviews contestable claims for misrepresentation
Data Entry into Underwriting tracking system
Reviews and evaluates non-standard applications and supporting documents
Ability to differentiate multiple different requirements for numerous associations
Communicates with company employees and Third-Party Administrators regarding underwriting procedures and insurance policies

Required
Minimum 3-5 years in life insurance or disability income underwriting.
Only life insurance or Disability [Income] Underwriting experience will be considered.
Authority Limits: Life up to $3M and Disability Income up to $20K.
Prior experience with underwriting software is essential.
Basic Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, Outlook) are required.
Candidates should be comfortable reading and managing documents in these formats.
Extensive knowledge of Medical Underwriting for Life Insurance.
Preferred
Bachelor's degree preferred.
Prefers candidates who have been active in life/disability underwriting within the last year.
Preferred: 5-7 years or more directly in life and/or disability insurance underwriting.
Prior experience working with document imaging systems.
Knowledge of client specific systems (e.g., Ares for underwriting, FileNet for document imaging) is not required but helpful.
