Responsibilities
Proactively plan, set objectives, and develop appropriate strategies and tactics with operational management that strive to achieve efficient, cost driven labor agreements
Serves as the chief spokesperson in union negotiations and/or provide strategic direction to others handling negotiations
Establish and maintain strong, constructive working relationships with labor union representatives
Establish and maintain strong, constructive working relationships with Company clients related to union matters
Strategically manages the defense of unfair labor practice charges, grievances, and arbitrations and provides leadership and assistance to others, including external counsel, handling defense work
Provides advice and guidance on strategies for effective communications with union employees and union leaders to minimize labor issues
Advises Company leaders regarding the labor relations aspects of business issues, including providing proactive communication with and input to commercial team involving union pricing and potential pension liability for new or expanded business opportunities
Partner with business executives, and lead development and implementation of long and short-term strategic labor relations objectives
Provide strategic advice to internal clients, including human resources professionals, business leaders and managers regarding labor laws and union contractual obligations to further business objectives in both union and non-union environments
Develop and execute collective bargaining strategy to benefit the Company long-term
Oversee union contract compliance and administration for all collective bargaining agreements
Act as labor point of contact and coordinator of external counsel in grievances and arbitrations and in proceedings before the National Labor Relations Board
Provide legal advice and support for Taft-Hartley plan audits
Create training for HR and management related to union issues

Required
B.A. from accredited University, preference for business-related studies
At least 8 years direct experience in labor relations, including negotiating collective bargaining agreements, with preference for the facilities industry
Strong communication skills, including ability to navigate a large, publicly traded organization with multiple stakeholder groups
Independent ability to draft and provide accurate analysis of collective bargaining contracts
Travel required as-needed for in-person meetings, including by air
Work involves repetitive motions and sitting at a computer for extended periods of time
General office environment, some travel both domestically and internationally required based on business demands
Must be able to lift at least fifty pounds
Preferred
Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school
At least 5 years relevant labor and employment law practice
Experience with California-based and Canadian labor unions
