Responsibilities
Serves as an expert HR Specialist (Classification) and performs broad, complete classification, position management and related programs and initiatives.
Provides broad assistance and guidance by researching and analyzing Federal classification information and responding to internal and external customers and staff members.
Conducts position reviews and/or desk audits and prepares evaluation statements in support of final classification and Fair Labor Standards Act determinations within established timeframes.
Serves as a recognized classification expert, consultant and provides authoritative advice and guidance in collaboration with classification staff, managers, and employees throughout various geographical locations within GSA.
Serves as a primary point of contact or lead in managing and/or accomplishing the most complex work assignments in the areas of classification, position management and organization development, which involve extremely difficult or complicated projects, and which regularly require the identification and resolution of precedent-setting and/or highly controversial operational problems.
Works with Classification Center Director and other HR Specialist to review and assist in assessing problematic or potentially controversial situations which are often out of the ordinary or unusual in nature.
Serves as an Expert Classifier and participates in regional and/or national reorganizations and provides authoritative technical advice and guidance involving optimum organizational structure and staffing patterns, supervisory ratios, establishment of career ladders, etc.
Manages and updates a classification tracker, work status and progress of work report and ensures that supervisors’ instructions on work priorities, methods, deadlines, and quality have been met.
Serves as a Classifier for various areas, location and/or regional and maintains personnel action requests, which require new, revised and/or updated position descriptions.
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with customers and other stakeholders.
Establishes and maintains a meeting schedule and continuously meets with customers and stakeholders to provide updates for customers in order to ensure that their classification needs and requests are met, are facilitated in timely, efficient manner.
Utilizes automated systems to establish spreadsheets, milestones, and other status information.
Leads day-to-day work of the Classification Center, providing expert guidance to team members, provides training to classification specialists, assists the supervisor with various program requirements, performs special projects, and complex technical classification work which covers the spectrum of federal position classification, position management, and organizational design.
Identifies, distributes and balances workload and tasks among team members in accordance with established workflow, skill level and/or occupational specialization; making adjustments to accomplish the workload in accordance with established priorities to ensure timely accomplishment of assigned team tasks; and ensuring that each employee has an integral role in developing the final team product.

To qualify, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level or higher in the Federal service.
Specialized experience is experience leading the day-to-day operations of a classification team such as, providing expert guidance and training; assisting management with various program requirements; performing special projects and complex technical duties which covers the spectrum of position classification, position management and organizational design.
