Responsibilities
Lead, manage and supervise the day-to-day operations of the Carolina Public Press news team, including staff members and freelancers.
Work closely with the executive director to oversee story assignments, coach content creators, edit news content, prep it for publication with an eye on SEO, post stories and help promote them on social media, in newsletters and through communication with partner organizations.
Develop and implement coverage plans, including major investigative projects.
Coordinate with other CPP team leaders to identify and implement audience and engagement opportunities.

Required
Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field
At least two years of post-college recent supervisory experience in mainstream daily newspapers or with digital-only newsrooms
Strong candidates from broadcast, nondaily newspaper or magazine backgrounds will also be considered
Good understanding of news issues, Associated Press style, investigative and in-depth journalism, journalistic ethics, media law, digital media, social media and search-engine optimization
Effective at helping reporters pursue stories through combinations of public records requests, event coverage and cultivation of sources
Willingness to live in North Carolina and have reliable internet access
Ability to reach other parts of the state by vehicle within a reasonable time
High proficiency in English
Preferred
Knowledge of photography and infographics
Ability to communicate in additional languages common to substantial populations in North Carolina, such as Spanish
