Responsibilities

Increase AMP’s presence and influence in the MISO stakeholder process
Ensure AMP Members, subject matter experts, and Legal are apprised of latest MISO rules as well as providing input as new rules are developed. Address AMP subject matter experts’ (SMEs) questions regarding implementation of MISO rules.
Actively participate in MISO stakeholder meetings regarding capacity, energy and ancillary services market design, transmission, operations, governance, and reliability.
Establish personal credibility as an objective and knowledgeable expert on MISO rules and processes. Build and maintain excellent relationships with MISO staff and other stakeholder representatives. Form and lead coalitions to achieve outcomes favorable to AMP in the MISO stakeholder process.
Assess emerging MISO issues and, in consultation with AMP SMEs, determine if proposed solutions would be favorable, unfavorable or neutral to AMP.
Develop and implement strategies related to influencing, interpreting, and implementing the MISO rules and regulations. Coordinate these efforts with AMP SMEs and Legal.
Support AMP Legal and outside counsel as MISO matters are taken up by FERC.
Keep staff and members abreast of regulatory issues which impact transmission, ancillary services, and wholesale capacity and energy markets.
Oversee and coordinate the work of consultants/partners/legal counsel.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Required

A four-year accredited degree in engineering, economics, science or business required.
Must have a minimum of 5 years of utility experience in some combination of the following: transmission operations and/or planning, electric power scheduling/trading, transmission tariff analysis, or regulatory affairs.
Must have knowledge of the MISO stakeholder process and Robert’s Rules of Order.
Must demonstrate ability to build teams and drive multiparty consensus.
Must demonstrate a high degree of expertise in the use of software tools that produce items such as spreadsheets, written reports, database reports and graphical presentations (e.g., Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint).
Must possess excellent communication, presentation, diplomacy, active listening, and facilitation skills to effectively work in small or large group forums ranging from technical to non-technical audiences at all levels of the corporate hierarchy.
Must be willing to periodically work under high stress conditions.
Must be willing to travel.

Preferred

Preferred to have a minimum of 2 years of direct participation in the MISO stakeholder process.
Preferred to have knowledge of capacity, energy, ancillary services market rules, market settlements, applicable FERC orders, applicable MISO and NAESB rules, and emerging generation and transmission technologies.
Preferred to have knowledge of MISO transmission planning process and criteria, system operations, load forecasting, system reliability requirements.
Preferred to have knowledge of utility ratemaking practices, finance, accounting, power contracts, quantitative analysis, and economic theory.
