Responsibilities

Serve as a recognized informatics expert in the areas of medical imaging and PACS.
Convene and lead groups of subject matter experts (SME) in radiology and related healthcare disciplines to identify best practices and achieve consensus for standardization of workflow design and configuration in existing and new health information systems.
Serve as a liaison between the Office of Information Technology and select Indian Health Service Headquarters offices and divisions.
Responsible for programmatic guidance of imaging related disciplines to ensure that the data needs of these programs are considered in health information technology system selection and configuration.
Perform in a professional manner when conducting duties between Indian Health Service, Tribal, Urban (I/T/U) users, state, local healthcare organizations, external and internal stakeholders and software development staff.
Represent the Office of Information Technology on specific professional specialty groups (PSG) or technical advisory groups (TAG) as assigned.
Prepare briefing papers, presentations, or other documents concerning activities, progress, goals, accomplishments, or risks in areas of responsibility that may be used to inform senior staff, Indian Health Service area leadership, Tribes and Urban Indian organizations or other agencies.
Conduct market research, independently and in collaboration with appropriate Office of Information Technology and program colleagues on medical imaging and or archiving products and systems that may be useful in improving care and outcomes for Indian Health Service facilities and patients.
Document findings and recommendations in formats accessible to business sponsors and leaders who do not have deep technical knowledge.
Conduct fact-finding and systems analysis relative to the implementation of medical imaging and archiving applications.
Evaluate and make recommendations to support implementation and modification of planned or proposed software changes or administrative policies for clinical software.
Use expert independent judgement to select and develop methods to meet long-term objectives for new healthcare software applications.
Evaluate, interpret, and implement regulations, mandates, and industry standards for health information technology system functionality, performance, interoperability, security, and usability.
Interface with health information technology product vendors and or support contractors regarding Indian Health Service system configuration requirements or product enhancement requests.

Required

One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level.
Leading or serving on a team responsible for the planning, acquiring, implementing, configuring new or upgraded medical imaging and archiving systems and applications.
Implementing new processes in clinical settings and working with other departments (clinicians, nurses, etc.) to ensure workflows optimally support staff and patients.
Participating on professional or informatics specialty groups or other collaborative efforts to develop or disseminate shared best practices at a regional or national level.
