Responsibilities

Key contributor and subject matter expert for all service-related accounting functions; intermediary between Finance and senior leadership with Service and Operational Excellence
Oversight of manual journals required related to service operations; collaborate with business to ensure proper documentation, support and reasoning is provided prior to recording of journals
Review, investigate and identify discrepancies and issues within complex accounts; identify root cause, make recommendations and implement solutions
Work closely with Director, Financial Controls and Director, Metrics to develop and maintain dashboard reporting for monitoring of service-related journals and activity
Liaison to Financial Controls team to ensure synchronization between Blackline and Workday General Ledger
Supervise, prepare and approve monthly account reconciliations of Staff and Senior Accountant with support of Director, Financial Controls
Work cross-functionally with other departments to identify imbalances, resolve reconciling items and ensure proper controls and accounting support is in place
Oversee and lead monthly account reconciliation process with Director, Financial Controls within Penn Mutual Life (PML), Penn Insurance & Annuity (PIA) and Penn Insurance & Annuity New York (PIA NY)
Evaluate and make appropriate improvements to internal accounting and reconciliation processes to ensure consistency, accuracy and alignment to overall goals of the organization
Analyze data, identify trends, and technical issues
Provide technical expertise, strategic thinking and process improvement strategies to help accelerate progress in the area of reconciliations and journal entries– both from a technical accounting and process perspective
Perform ad-hoc analysis and participate in special projects where needed.
Strong knowledge of MS Excel with ability to manipulate large sets of data
Experience with Workday and/or Blackline strongly preferred
High attention to detail, accuracy and quality and ability to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks
Excellent analytical skills and strong organizational skills
Self-motivated with a sense of urgency and professionalism
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, required
Ability and willingness to multitask and adapt in a changing work environment
Strong technical aptitude with the ability to navigate within multiple systems and embrace new ones
Excellent problem-solving skills
Ability to work with others in a collaborative team environment, while maintaining a self-driven mentality

Required

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting Required
Minimum of 7-10 years experience in corporate accounting, specifically general ledger accounting and account reconciliations
Strong knowledge of MS Excel with ability to manipulate large sets of data

Excellent analytical skills and strong organizational skills
