Responsibilities
Advise the Design Team lead with the management of the engineering design team and the design of all engineering systems.
Interface with National Science Foundation technical personnel as assigned.
Conduct a technical review of all internally developed technical products.
Develop technical statements of work for commercial contract technical packages. (Specifications, PRs, etc.).
Document design development activities for modifications to Antarctic Research Vessel systems.
Conduct studies and analyses as assigned by the technical lead for the development of systems requirements.
Review all externally developed Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) for technical sufficiency and report discrepancies to the technical lead prior to the Technical Advisory Group review.
Support the Antarctic Research Vessel systems Configuration Management (CM) manager in the planning and execution of the Technical Advisory Group.
Conduct ship checks and shipyard visits as required.

Required
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or Naval Architecture from an ABET accredited university or college.
At least fifteen (15) years of relevant work experience demonstrated experience with vessel design, construction, and repair with primary focus on marine engineering, machinery control systems, auxiliary systems integration and systems engineering.
Experience shall include at least one (1) year of demonstrated experience with U.S. shipbuilding acquisitions.
Experience shall include performing detailed design and analysis in order to support a major government shipbuilding acquisition (DHS/USCG Level 1, DoD ACAT I or equivalent) projects.
Preferred
Master's degree in Mechanical/Marine Engineering or another comparable Engineering discipline.
Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Marine or Mechanical Engineering.
Experience in A/C propulsion and ice breaker design is highly desirable.
