Responsibilities

Manage the installation, configuration, and upgrading of databases.
Ensure databases are running efficiently and effectively.
Monitor database performance and implement optimization techniques to improve performance.
Diagnose and resolve performance issues related to databases.
Apply patches, updates, and upgrades to databases in a timely manner.
Conduct routine maintenance to ensure the stability and reliability of database systems.
Ensure index and statistics maintenance is current.
Ensure that disaster recovery plans are tested and effective.
Perform regular database backups and recovery procedures.
Enforce database security policies and procedures.
Manage user accounts, roles, and permissions to safeguard sensitive data.
Provide advanced technical support for complex database issues.
Work with development and application teams to troubleshoot and resolve problems.
Participate in an on-call rotation to provide after-hours and weekend support.
Maintain detailed documentation of database configurations, changes, and procedures.
Create and update operational and troubleshooting guides.
Coordinate with other IT professionals, including system administrators and network engineers, to ensure seamless integration and operation of database systems.
Participate in database-related projects, including migrations, new implementations, and upgrades.
Provide expertise and guidance during project planning and execution.
Stay current with industry trends, product updates, and emerging technologies.
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance database management and performance.

Required

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent IT experience.
3-5+ years of experience in Oracle or MS SQL Server database administration or a related role.
Demonstrated experience in managing and optimizing databases in a production environment.
Advanced knowledge of the SQL Server database administration.
Demonstrated experience with implementing and managing AlwaysOn.
Proficiency in Database architecture, features, and tools.
Advanced knowledge of SQL and T-SQL.
Experience with database backup and recovery tools and techniques.
Experience in performance tuning and troubleshooting.
Understanding of following Change Management procedures to deploy system changes.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work in a 24x7 on-call rotation.

Preferred

Relevant certifications (e.g., Oracle or Microsoft Certified Associate) are a plus.
Experience in Cassandra or MongoDB is a plus, but not required.
Experience with Azure SQL is a plus.
Experience with Rubrik is a plus.
