Responsibilities
Creates monthly national newsletter from concept to completion: identifies, curates, and organizes potential stories for monthly newsletter, writes long form corresponding articles when necessary, writes short summary blurbs for newsletter, codes email using HTML best practices, reviews email using LITMUS, and follows the organization QA process for email review, and schedules email on time.
Creates monthly engagement newsletter from concept to completion using the guidelines above.
Creates periodic Leadership Circle email. Suggests topics, works with C-Suite to execute and completes all final email coding and scheduling.
Develops practices for email improvements such as a/b testing, researching best practices.
Use tools to test and improve email templates: screen readers, Litmus, etc.
Follow Compassion & Choices writing and design guidelines.
Coordinates with Database team on email audits, email purging, general automations, and organizational reporting.
Provides website and other digital writing as needed and assigned by the director of content strategy.
Conducts daily EMIT process (reviews all daily emails for spelling, style guide, tone, and grammar.)
Develops org-wide backup EMIT process with the director of content strategy.
Develops org-wide web writing editing process for QA.
Manages general welcome series automation.
Works on re-engagement campaigns.
Guides team on email best practices.
Creates emails for one-off national email campaigns, threats, opportunities, and leadership messaging as needed.
Is comfortable working with other staff members to identify and turn their needs into final written and email projects.
Support of all C&C efforts as requested; including, but not limited to, activities such as identifying prospects, briefing donors, alerting staff of fundraising opportunities, reaching out to donors, participating in phone-athons, etc.
Timely and accurate completion of related reports (such as company credit card statement, performance reviews, time cards, etc.).
Demonstrates commitment to and active support of C&C’s Diversity & Inclusion program.

Required
High school diploma required.
Knows AP style (or another style such as MLA or Chicago and can learn AP style)
Strong writer with a knack for brevity and writing on digital formats.
Understands tone
Can distill complex ideas in easy-to-understand written work
Knows how to spot and simplify jargon
Is comfortable ghostwriting for leadership in email and web formats
Ability to read and interpret email analytics (open rate, CTR, etc.)
Ability to use email reporting systems to access email data and interpret findings for leadership and other staff members.
Ability to problem solve
Ability to understand and set priorities
Understand HTML and inline CSS styling for emails.
Knowledge of basic email clients
Understands marketing compliance, CAN SPAM law, ADA compliance for emails.
Has worked with email QA testing tools such as Litmus, Email on Acid or other system.
Has created templates.
Has used a complex email system such as EveryAction, Marketo, Eloqua, HubSpot, or Salesforce (something more complex than Mailchimp, Constant Contact, etc.)
Can set up drip, nurture campaigns, and automated series.
Familiar with G-Suite products (Google Drive, Gmail, Google Doc, Google Sheets, etc.)

Preferred
Bachelor’s in communications, marketing, computer science, or similar field preferred.
Fluency in Spanish is preferred but not required.
