Responsibilities

Modelling and performing the studies; deliver study reports.
Technical responsibility in areas of expertise.
Provide guidance to peers on areas of expertise.
Customer facing responsibilities.
Processes: develop and industrialise solution tools and processes associated with the engineering activities identified above. Design Guides.
Development: Be actively involved in new developments in HVDC technologies, implementing control and protection solutions and creating / delivering new analysis techniques and system study tools in order to provide optimized system study solutions.
External activities: Represent the business in external events by publishing technical papers or participating in working groups (CIGRE/IEC/IEEE).
Adherence to company policies and Code of Conduct.
Health and Safety: consider Health and Safety preventions, risks, behaviors. Attend EHS training.

Required

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
Minimum 3 years’ experience of network or transient studies for HVDC/FACTS/Renewable Energy/Inverter based Power Systems in offshore wind, industrial, utility substations oe grid interconnects.
Able and willing to travel 20% including international and comply with GE travel guidelines.

Preferred

Master’s degree in electrical engineering including power systems and power electronics subjects with proven professional experience and technical expertise in the field of power system engineering and preferably in HVDC System Studies.
Knowledge of system tools such as SIMULINK MATLAB, DSAT
Knowledge of RAM Studies
Independently perform in depth system studies listed below and/or specify scope, review, comment, direct/oversee 3rd party provider(s) for the studies below: Grid Compliance, Transmission network planning, Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) study, Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) study, Low Voltage Ride Through (LVRT), High Voltage Ride Through (HVRT) study, Arc Flash, Protection studies ... relay coordination, unit protection, real Time Digital Simulation (RTDS) for protection, Cable selection and Sizing, Network studies: Confirmation of the correct interaction between the equipment, its control system, and the rest of the network.
Expertise in the use of computer mathematical and simulation tools as applied to the design of the activities.
Strong knowledge on High Voltage substation North American standards & guidelines (IEEE & ANSI standards and codes such as the NEC and the NESC.), local Grid Codes and related equipment (safety, application, sizing, and integration). Moreover, ability to engineer design packages when no clear customer specification is provided.
Professional Engineering license and willing to review and seal your work and the work of others under your supervision.
Strong knowledge on contract and project management, Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC), or Engineering equipment package (EEP) project execution.
Strong understanding of civil engineering and substation related structural design requirements.
Working knowledge of applicable design calculations for primary & secondary equipment such as battery sizing & DC system component selection, power transformer and circuit breaker selection, circuit protection, control and power cable selection and rating, bus, fittings, insulator, and arrector selection, ground grid design, and lightning protection.
Field-testing and commissioning experience with safe work habits.
Knowledge of IEC and CIGRE guidelines is a plus.
Excellent personal computer skills, including programming and design automation, and familiarity with AutoCAD strongly desired.
