Responsibilities
Advises, administers, or researches a field of Earth science concerned with the observation, measurement, modeling, and nature of the physical environment of Earth, including Earth Science for Action.
Performs multiple functions, which may include: planning, design, test and evaluation, cost analyses, program and project management, mentorship of contracted work, quality management of projects.
Conducts special studies for NASA Programs/Projects and its partners by serving as a principal investigator to perform needed management of budgets, deliverables, communication of results, while adhering to culture of open science.
Designs, implements and reports on Earth science research projects related to biosphere and atmosphere and their interactions through the analysis, interpretation, and application of data obtained from space, airborne, and ground-based measurements.
Identifies, develops, applies, and tests analytical techniques to derive useful Earth science information from a variety of remotely sensing data and supportive data obtained from in-situ or laboratory measurements.
Develops mathematical algorithms via empirical techniques, physically-based models, or statistical/inversion methods as well as software or coding techniques that more accurately predict and characterize Earth processes using remotely sensed data.
Disseminates findings, data, and knowledge in open-source ways to agency, external partners, and larger scientific community, including peer-reviewed publications, scientific conferences, agency workshop and meetings, and capacity building projects.

Required
One year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level: Deploying technical Earth science programs and scientific advances; Participating in contributing to projects agency's operating programs in Earth Science; Participating in the development of new Earth science.
One year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level: Deploying technical Earth science programs and scientific advances to advise agency officials as well as cultivate and deepen external partnerships; Contributing to or leading projects including capacity building, outreach, foundational research, campaign-related data collection, or Earth action; Developing or conceiving new Earth science project or applications using advanced theories, principles, concepts, standards, and methods.
Successfully completed a bachelor's degree with a major in Engineering, Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science, or Computer Science that included 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of coursework in any combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science.
If you did not complete a qualifying bachelor's degree, you may be eligible if you have obtained a graduate degree in an AST qualifying field.
All degrees must have been received in the year of, or any year subsequent to the original date of accreditation.
