Responsibilities
Develops and reviews project plans, specifications, and estimates.
Assist in the preparation and review of materials specifications and test procedures.
Conduct field and laboratory tests on construction materials such as soil, concrete, asphalt, and aggregates.
Analyze test data and prepare detailed reports on findings.
Collaborate with project engineers and contractors to resolve materials-related issues.
Ensure all materials used in construction meet Caltrans quality standards.
Maintain accurate records of materials testing and inspection activities.
Participate in project meetings and provide technical support as needed.
Stay updated with the latest industry standards and advancements in materials engineering.

Required
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited university or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification
Minimum of 2 years of experience in materials engineering or a related field
Knowledge of materials testing methods and equipment
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant engineering software
Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
Ability to work in various field conditions, including construction sites
Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment as needed
