Responsibilities
Lead with Collaboration: Coach and partner with Business Relationship Managers, Associate Business Relationship Managers, and Senior Specialists. You'll build strong connections internally and externally, cultivating relationships that drive success.
Partner with Purpose: Work closely with internal and external partners, such as COIs, to align strategies and meet Credit Union objectives, ensuring that both members and the organization thrive.
Manage Relationships & Portfolios: Be the main point of contact for complex loan transactions, including construction, renovation, and credit workouts. You’ll work with the Portfolio Management Team to ensure seamless reporting, collection, and monitoring for up to 200 CRE loans.
Champion Client Engagement: Connect with business owners and CRE operators to uncover personal needs, offering warm hand-offs to relevant partners within the Credit Union for further support.
Build and Grow Relationships: Take the lead in developing and managing key commercial relationships (C&I, Key Depositors, and CRE), focusing on Owner-occupied CRE, with a targeted approach that includes marketing, regular follow-ups, and strategic outreach.
Drive Financial Solutions: Actively promote and sell deposit products such as analyzed checking, ZBA, SWEEP, IOLTA, and other treasury management solutions, offering tailored business solutions to meet member needs.
Cultivate Business Partnerships: Recommend and maintain relationships with business partners, including Paychex, merchant services, and investment services, while ensuring service level agreements are met.
Ensure Optimal Member Experience: Manage portfolios to ensure maximum returns to members while maintaining operational excellence and adherence to policies and procedures.
Develop Strategic Plans: Create annual business plans to achieve goals for membership, loans, deposits, and non-interest income that support BECU’s strategic objectives.
Streamline Credit Administration: Collect and manage financial information from business clients for loan origination and annual review. Work closely with Business Credit Administration to ensure smooth approval, booking, and funding processes.
Analyze Credit Requests: Review financial statements, tax returns, and business profiles to assess the viability of credit applications, providing in-depth analysis and recommendations.
Maintain Portfolio Health: Regularly manage your assigned C&I and CRE portfolios, conducting annual, semi-annual, and quarterly reviews, ensuring proper covenant monitoring and credit analysis.
Communicate Effectively: Address declinations and communicate decisions to prospects and clients, ensuring clear and timely information while adhering to credit union and regulatory guidelines.
Handle Problem Credit Situations: Collaborate with leadership to negotiate collections, workouts, and defaults. Your timely communication will help navigate any credit issues that arise.
Stay Informed: Keep up-to-date with state and federal regulatory compliance laws, credit union credit policies, and trends in business and commercial loans, ensuring that your decisions are based on the most current knowledge.
Expand Member Engagement: Support Retail, Mortgage, Investment Services, and Indirect Lending teams by calling on prospective members to drive local engagement and foster relationships.
Increase Community Presence: Participate in local business and public groups to establish new referral sources and attract fresh opportunities. Use your community knowledge to help identify potential partnerships or co-branding initiatives.

Required
Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in business, or equivalent work or educational experience.
Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of financial institution experience in Business/Commercial Lending business development and Business/Commercial relationship management.
Typically requires a minimum of 7 years of experience working with C&I borrowers and commercial real estate borrowers interpreting and understanding their financials.
Preferred
Strong working knowledge of state and federal regulatory compliance laws, credit union credit policy, business & commercial loan products and services, accounting, marketing, sales, and financial and credit/portfolio management principles.
Thorough understanding of financial statement analysis including C&I Businesses, Commercial Real Estate transactions, guarantor analysis, loan structuring, business and commercial products, including treasury management products, as well as implementation and servicing of these product.
Excellent sales, cross-selling and business development skills using an established sales performance management process.
Ability to source, structure and present business solutions to existing and prospective member businesses.
Excellent interpersonal skills to ensure partner/member related issues are handled in a fair, consistent manner.
Proficient verbal and written skills to effectively communicate.
Strong financial acumen and analytical skills. Ability to assess credit risk in C&I and CRE opportunities.
Thorough understanding of product profitability and pricing analysis.
Ability to make and service a broad range of complex business loans.
Ability to effectively use accounting principles and budgeting skills.
Ability to outline proposed credit structures for effective underwriting.
Moderate travel by car and/or public conveyance for trips.
