Responsibilities

Lead the technical activities on the Solar Project and other renewable energy projects. This is expected to include: guiding the IFC Advisory team on all relevant technical matters; liaison with government clients on technical matters; and management of external technical consultants for site studies, detailed technical due diligence (including solar resource assessment), preparation of technical documentation, PV plant outline design, energy yield estimation and other related tasks.
Provide technical support to other IFC Advisory’s renewable energy projects as may be required. This is expected to include: providing advice on specific technical issues for other solar transactions (including supporting the procurement of technical and resource measurement consultants); providing technical advice for solar business development efforts.
Provide regular updates to IFC Advisory staff involved in managing the Project and, where appropriate, seek advice / input from these and other IFC staff on specific issues (e.g. grid studies, E&S studies).
Provide responses to technical queries raised by stakeholders and review the technical aspect of bids submitted by prospective developers of the Project.

Required

At least 15 years of practical experience in developing and implementing solar PV and wind farm projects, including extensive experience of renewable energy projects in the developing world.
In-depth knowledge of: solar PV site selection (including strong GIS skills); wind farm site selection; ground investigations for solar PV plants; satellite and ground-based solar resource assessment; solar PV equipment and manufacturers; technical aspects of typical solar PV project documentation; and the economics of solar PV and wind farm projects.
Understanding of the integration of variable renewable energy in power grids sufficient to manage the delivery of grid integration studies.
Detailed knowledge of the Scaling Solar template documentation (i.e. RfQ, RfP, PPA and GSA) and implementation process.
Understanding of environmental & social aspects of solar PV project development.
Understanding of IFC Investment requirements in relation to financing solar PV projects (e.g. technical due diligence and environmental & social assessment).
Ability to work independently with limited guidance, as part of virtual teams.
Excellent English language skills.

Preferred

Understanding of Amharic may be preferred.
