Responsibilities

Provides technical expertise and interface for complex risk analysis, highly specialized design, design review, construction, and rehabilitation of a diverse array of projects and functions.
Manages, coordinates, and reviews engineering geology portion of assigned analyses, studies, and other technical products prepared by the Center, A-E firms, or other professional contractors in the area of dam safety modification.
Evaluates and designs engineering geology aspects of dams, embankments and potential hazards of hydraulic structures on a wide range of geologic conditions.
Designs and directs installation of complex instrumentation systems to measure geologic properties for inclusion in analyses.
Develops and implements specialized laboratory testing programs to determine geologic characteristics and rock mechanics parameters.
Prepares design reports, dam safety modification reports, engineering geology portions of risk analysis reports, and/or construction drawings and specifications.
Provides technical support to districts performing risk analyses, engineering analyses, designs, and plans and specifications, especially for dam safety modification studies.

Required

Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in geology, plus 20 additional semester hours in any combination of mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological science, structural, chemical, civil, mining or petroleum engineering, computer science, planetary geology, comparative planetology, geophysics, meteorology, hydrology, oceanography, physical geography, marine geology, and cartography.
Course work as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
One year of specialized experience which includes applying professional expertise in engineering geology studies, methods, and techniques associated with the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of dam safety projects.
Possession of a current Professional Geologist Registration or License.
Must obtain and maintain a valid state issued driver's license.
Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement.
Permanent Change of Station (PCS) allowances MAY BE authorized, subject to the provisions of the Joint Travel Regulations and an agency determination that a PCS move is in the Government Interest.
Incentives MAY BE paid if the selecting official determines it is in the best interests of the government.
