Responsibilities
Visually monitors inventories of consumable common supplies and replaces depleted items in a timely fashion to ensure continuity in lab experimental procedures.
Reviews and approves requests for new common supplies and implements purchases when necessary. Works closely with and maintains open communication with departmental Buyer.
Acts as property controller for all inventoried laboratory equipment. Maintains and updates equipment manuals and records. Resolves missing equipment items.
Maintains communication with all laboratory principal investigators (PIs). Assists in coordinating collaborative issues among the laboratory PIs and their respective employees. Carries out requests from PIs as deemed appropriate.
Acts as contact between Research Facilities and laboratories. Reports facilities-related problems to Research Facilities and provides follow-up. Initiates and completes work request forms for specific changes or repairs and provides cost estimates to PIs.
In collaboration with Facilities Operations, addresses occupant concerns related to the cleanliness of the building.
Attends SCRB Operations Building Mtgs, recurring monthly with representatives from each department in attendance as well as representatives from Facilities Management, Conference Support Management, and EH&S.
Disseminate information to all occupants regarding building changes, updates, and building SOPs.
Supervises the histology and radioactive facilities. Trains new employees in proper techniques. Provides orientation for all new facility users. Coordinates core hood and incubator usage.
Conducts training in research techniques as needed.
Ensures that the laboratory is prepared for isotope inspections and safety accreditation.
Oversees and facilitates repairs and maintenance of equipment as problems arise and/or as necessary with a vendor, Biomedical Engineering, or Biosafety.
Supervises the overall appearance of the laboratory. Ensures that supplies and materials are stored properly.
Oversees daily maintenance of all laboratory common equipment. Supervises the upkeep and organization of common equipment areas. Oversees the instruction of proper use and care of all common equipment.
Supervises laboratory facilities, the development and implementation of policies for this area, policing of infractions, and the direction of technicians.
Monitors quality control as well as the purchasing and maintenance of the equipment in this area.
Ensures laboratory operations are effective and meet the needs of the department.
Ensures that supplies and materials are stored properly.
Ensure that all new equipment is properly tagged before use and assist with the Asset Transfer paperwork associated with interdepartmental equipment exchanges.
Remove from service equipment that is not functioning properly. Work with Lab Manager, PI, and Department to arrange repair services.
Ensure proper storage of chemicals and biological reagents according to state/government regulations.
Serve as the point person for the department with MDACC site/building services.
Maintain records of safety training.
Provides coverage to the Associate Director, Laboratory Operations when requested and or in his/her absence.
Continually explore process improvement and opportunities to improve efficiencies.
Communicate effectively with laboratory personnel politely and professionally and maintain composure in a stressful environment.
Inspect core areas daily. Ensure that all common supplies are in stock and readily available.
Monitor waste collection: ensure proper labeling of waste and coordinate hazardous waste removal.
Monitor consumable research material inventory and coordinate submission of orders to ensure prompt arrival of supplies required for execution of research projects.
Track and maintain records of common laboratory supplies and samples with required documents at required times.
Monitor and maintain records for equipment maintenance and testing.

Required
Bachelor's degree.
Five years of administrative and supervisory experience in a large institution.
Preferred
Master's Level Degree
The ideal candidate should have excellent organizational skills with a particular ability to prioritize work in an environment with multiple interests.
Flexibility, and willingness to take on assignments are essential.
Knowledge of research equipment and techniques preferred.
Skills in both verbal and written communication
