Responsibilities
Advises and coordinates key policy development and implementation initiatives throughout the Department or within USDA components.
Translates goals of the Administration and the Secretary into effective development and implementation of USDA policies and programs.
Works with the executive leadership, their directors, and other senior managers across all USDA mission areas to ensure that the Under Secretary program and policy goals and objectives are effectively carried out.
Reviews, evaluates, and critiques contributions related to the coordinated OCS topic areas of REE and its agricultural based scientific counterparts (including those from within the USDA and external stakeholders) to the Under Secretary.
Plans and conducts projects vital to USDA’s mission. Directs broad studies to analyze and recommend decisions on highly complex issues that are broad in scope.
Develops, plans, implements, and manages best practices for broad, emerging, or critical largescale agency programs of significant interest to the public and the government as defined in USDA’s mission and the Secretary’s initiatives.
Plans, designs, and implements public liaison efforts to inform and educate the general and specialized public about OCS programs, activities, and services.
Leads strategic initiatives to address operational challenges and opportunities.

Required
You must be a US Citizen or US National.
Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
If selected, you may be required to serve a probationary or trial period as applicable to appointment type.
Subject to one year supervisory/managerial probationary period unless prior service is creditable. New USDA supervisors must successfully complete all components of the required training program before the end of their probationary period.
Direct Deposit: Per Public Law 104-134 all Federal employees are required to have federal payments made by direct deposit to their financial institution.
Successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
Current federal employees applying for a promotion opportunity must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirement of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled.
One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-15 level in the Federal service or equivalent responsibility in the private sector/pay systems that has equipped the candidate with the particular competencies to successfully perform as a Chief of Staff.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).
