Responsibilities
Peer Leaders lead the Connection support groups and Peer-to-Peer educational programs within selected correctional facilities within the state of Kansas.
Two leaders per program are required by NAMI to fulfill their signature program standards, so two to four Peer Leaders will be assigned to each of the three state correctional facilities participating in this project.
Two Program Leaders will also be assigned to each of the participating county jails.
The Peer Leader Float Position is hired as a Peer Leader but instead of being stationed at one facility, will fill in at all participating facilities as needed.
They will be approved for each facility and facilitate when the regularly scheduled leader is absent.
The Peer Leader Float will report to the JIP Director.
Traveling would include the following Kansas Counties: Butler, Johnson, Reno, Riley, Wyandotte, Norton, and Shawnee Counties as of this job posting but may be subject to change.

Required
Over the age of 18
Have a self-identified OR Clinically diagnosed Mental Health Condition
Must be a certified NAMI Connection and/ or Peer-to-Peer leader or be able to be trained.
Have a high school diploma.
No previous or current sex offense charges/ convictions or gang affiliation.
Must have a valid driver’s license and car insurance OR a reliable mode of transportation to get to all assigned facilities.
Preferred
Have a previous substance use history but must be sober for 12+ months at the time of hire.
Have a previous criminal history but must have completed their last day of supervision 12 months prior to hire and not have any current pending charges or warrants.
