Responsibilities

Execute the timely completion of assigned work orders and other program projects by analyzing scope and determining requirements, evaluating complex product and systems to establish requirements and preparing reports.
Maintain the integrity of the UL Mark by conducting various product, device, process, system and material inspections at various sites and locations to ensure that they are in compliance with various applicable technical requirements.
Assist in the promotion, marketing and selling of new and existing UL services.
Work with internal and external customers to resolve technical and administrative issues.
Independently perform building special inspections, safety and non-safety certification inspections and field evaluations in accordance with the required performance standards and requirements.
Analyze and evaluate examination and test results against applicable requirements.
Use technical judgment to determine whether noncompliance variations compromise the continued application of the UL Mark and may determine if alternative is acceptable.
Audit customer quality management/assurance programs.
Interpret and analyze examination and test results against UL requirements, verifying the accuracy of installers measuring equipment.
Evaluate and facilitate options for corrective action where variations from UL requirements are noted.
Understand construction and test acceptance criteria in FUII and requirements of applicable sections of Standards, FUIIs and/or procedures for “Special Competency” required categories.
Communicate with manufacturers, customers, building owners, contractors, GC’s, Authorities Having Jurisdiction and others to conduct non-safety and safety certification inspections.
Investigate the misuse of UL Mark.
Provide general information on policies and procedures for the varied UL services along with promoting and explaining the benefits of new and existing services.
Discuss procedures, test methods, test results, sample selection and variations in products, devices, processes, systems, and materials as necessary to resolve problems, implement changes to existing requirements or help develop new requirements.
Provide technical assistance in several product categories and/or inspection methods.
Use instruments to perform inspections, such as micrometers, voltmeters, ammeters, and other UL supplied equipment.
Observe the use of manufacturer’s, contractor’s equipment necessary to meet UL requirements.
Confirm the proper calibration of contractors measuring equipment and may perform calibration of UL supplied equipment.
Document examination, variations, and test results to appropriate UL forms.
Maintain logs for scheduling inspections, time and expenses.
Perform various calculations in more than one specific engineering field such as electrical, mechanical, chemical, or fire protection.
May participate in reviewing the work of other staff.
May participate in reviewing and interpreting quality assurance program requirements to assist in implementation of alternate quality-based inspection programs.

Required

Minimum 2-year Technical Degree plus generally Five years of related experience
Knowledge of Lightning protection and Fire Barrier Management preferred
Experienced or knowledge in lightning protection standards such UL96a, NFPA780, AFI, IEC, ESE, etc.
Ability to teach ULKS classes for various categories of standards or programs
General electronics background, and strong mechanical and technical aptitude with the ability to read and interpret schematic diagrams and building drawings
Ability to cross sell and understand client business needs
Strong written and verbal communications skills, and client-interfacing skills
Strong computer skills
Ability to travel locally, regionally, internationally and work remotely
Travel outside area is expected for training purposes and additional support of workload in other territories
Ability to work from heights and access rooftops

Preferred

Experience in Field Engineering, Compliance, or Quality Engineering
Experience in special inspections such as Lightning protection or related construction inspections
