Responsibilities

Strategic Research Growth: Collaborate with Associate Dean for Research to successfully develop strategic plans to enhance and grow research initiatives within the Price College of Engineering.
Increased Proposal Submissions: Review current funding opportunities and connect them with appropriate engineering faculty to increase the number of research proposals submitted by faculty with well-targeted proposals.
Strengthen External Relations: Interface with companies, government agencies, national labs, foundations to build relationships with Price College of Engineering. Organize virtual and campus visits including agenda, tours, and meetings with faculty, deans and UofU leadership that result in increased engagement and support for research initiatives. Ensure follow-up communication and engagement. Coordinate with the Office of the Vice President for Research as appropriate.
Commercialization Pathways: Promote awareness of commercialization opportunities among faculty and researchers, encouraging them to explore and pursue commercialization of their research. Act as a liaison between the Technology Licensing Office and the college.
Enhanced Research Communication: Ensure timely and accurate dissemination of research news, OVPR communications and RFP digests to engineering faculty.
Effective Management of Seed Grants: Administer internal funding opportunities, including seed grants, from launch through to award, ensuring proper review processes and alignment with research goals.
Proposal and Award Tracking: Oversee comprehensive tracking and analysis of research proposals, awards, and success rates by department and principal investigator. Identify and support faculty with low proposal submissions/awards/expenditures. Become familiar with and utilize university research dashboards and other data resources.
Support for New Faculty: Provide effective assistance for new faculty in developing research proposals including training, setting up necessary databases, and identifying potential collaborators. Help configure mailing lists and databases for funding resources and steer new faculty towards university training resources.
Updated Research Database: Maintain an accurate and current database of engineering researchers, their research areas, and preferred funding agencies.
Recognition of Research Impact: Oversee successful organization and selection of Faculty Research Impact awards, recognizing and celebrating outstanding research contributions.
Up-to-Date Web Presence: Ensure timely updates and maintenance of the 'research' section on the college's web pages to reflect current research activities and achievements.
University-level Committee Participation: Serve as college liaison between engineering admins, VPR and U admin. Stay updated on current policies and train department admins on policies, procedures and budgeting. Answer questions and organize/attend admin meetings as needed.

Required

Master's Degree or Bachelor's degree + four years of related experience or 12 years of related experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).
Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Preferred

Experience working at the University of Utah in research, grant, and contract administration is preferred but not required.
