Responsibilities

Provide clinical care and teaching in the outpatient setting. Our outpatient settings encompass multiple clinical sites with varied patient populations, some (notably at the FHC) including underserved, largely immigrant families
Teach, including clinical supervision and mentorship of medical students, Pediatric and Child Neurology residents and Fellows in DBP, as well as providing didactic teaching and guest lectures. This educational role is a unique aspect of the DBP position, as they often work closely with other professionals, such as speech therapists, occupational therapists, educators, pediatrics, neurology, and genetics to provide comprehensive care
Provide direct clinical care to all patients assigned, in accordance with applicable standards of care, FHC policies and procedures and Hospital policies and procedures, as applicable
Maintain good citizenship standards designed to optimize patient care and service and the smooth operation of the FHC. Such standards include but are not limited to the following: Accommodating walk–in patients, arriving for office sessions on time and remaining throughout each session, engaging in teamwork with the support staff, following FHC procedures and practice guidelines, e.g., appropriate clinical charting with complete notes and up-to-date problem and medication lists, timely completion of encounter forms, completing peer chart audits, etc
Meet specialty defined productivity expectations established by the FHC network
Complete accurately and timely any paperwork necessary to facilitate FHC billing and reimbursement
Participate in the FHC’s Quality program through the review of healthcare gap reports (e.g. Azara, payor gap lists) and the FHC Quality SmartSet to identify and address health maintenance gaps for patients attributed to the practice
Comply with the credentialing requirements of NYU Langone Hospitals Medical Staff and participate in continuing education activities
Adhere and support the Medical Staff bylaws, Joint Commission standards and state and federal guidelines as per the agency’s needs
Participate in committees and conduct other duties as assigned by supervisor. Attend and participate in regular site meetings
Bridge the gap between general pediatrics and psychiatry, providing a specialized focus on developmental and behavioral disorders. The DBP will play a key role in helping families understand the unique needs of their children and the value of specialized pediatric care
Provide health/behavioral health assessment (including differential diagnoses, prognosis), treatment recommendations and treatment planning for patients
Provide medication management for patients on medication and regular reassessment (as needed) for those assessed (but not on medication). Medication provision includes the direct delivery of injectables
Provide counseling, therapy, psychoeducation about health/behavioral health and other care for patients
Participate in case reviews and contribute to treatment planning goal setting
Provide consultations to non-medical staff on complex cases
Communicate with health care providers outside of the Child Study Center and interpretation of health results for client care planning
Provide timely and accurate completion of medical records
Meet standard clinician practice on-call and coverage responsibilities
Provide sufficient evening hours to provide appropriate clinical care
Attend at least 80% of case conferences and grand rounds
Maintain at least 80% attendance at general administrative meetings (FGP All Hands, service meetings, etc.)
Participate in practice improvement projects that benefit the patient and program
Supports the mission, philosophy, standards, goals and objectives of the department and institution
Provide outreach to the professional and lay community
Participate in designated activities related to professional nursing standards and regulations of relevant outside agencies
Practice as a member of the allied health staff according to the rules and regulations of the Medical Staff and bylaws as outlined in the delineation of privileges
Notify the Clinical Director in a timely manner of all planned vacations and absences

Required

Board Certified/Eligible (BC/BE) Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrician
Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of health care professionals
Strong dedication to workplace mentorship, education and team-based care
Graduate of a medical school approved by the New York State Education Department
Completion of approved residency in Pediatrics and fellowship in Developmental/Behavioral Pediatrics
Must be license eligible in New York by start date of position
Board Certified/eligible in Developmental/Behavioral Pediatrics
